The gallery was founded in 1965 and it is settled in the newly renovated historical building of the former town brewery in Pivovarska street. Their collections represent the Czech abstract art since the second half of the 20th century till present days. The part of the exhibition is devoted to the Czech constructivism (Zdenek sykora, Vladislav Mirvald etc.), who painted here in Louny and its surroundings. The modern part of the building is designed by the famous architect Emil Prikryl and it was open in 1998.
